Game Recap

Wasatch played the defending 4A Soccer Champions, Timpview. It was a defensive battle for the entire match. Wasatch employed a more defensive formation that restricted Timpview’s potent offense the entire evening. The entire team did a great job of doing their assignments. With two minutes left in the first half, a defensive mistake allowed for Timpview’s forward, Lily Haskins, to intercept a clear and then quickly tuck the ball away in to the lower right corner of the goal. The 1-0 halftime lead for Timpview ended up being the final score.

Mandi Sabey and Hannah Johnston have been sharing goalkeeping and have done a fantastic job in net. Mandi made several great saves to keep Timpview at bay in the first half. The second half Hannah also had a good game, with several excellent saves.

With the more defensive formation, which included two defensive midfielders, Wasatch kept the score close and had several counter attacks that could not quite get the equalizing goal.

The second half the Wasps were able to make a few more connecting passes with the forwards as some lineup changes were made. Although the match ended in a 0-1 loss, Wasatch played really well and kept the outcome close the entire game.

Some good improvements were made from the first match with Skyview in the defensive third of the field. The team is looking forward to next week’s match with 6A Layton at home. August 14, 4:00 PM.
