Game Recap

Senior Recognition Night was held in the football stadium before a large and energetic crowd. The starters for the game were seniors; Brian Espinoza, Rey Calzadillas, Jesse Lopez, Gary Lopez, Griffin Hall, Reza Muradi, Chandler Hendry, Nestor Chavez and Andrew Dalebout. Sophomores Matthias Dunn and Carson Broadhead also started.

Four minutes into the game Gary Lopez scored from an assist by fellow senior Rey Calzadillas. The quick start was great to see with the seniors on the field together. Three minutes later Springville tied it up with a fabulous shot to the upper right V, just under the crossbar. The first half was a close competitive game, Wasatch getting a go ahead goal in the 28th minute that ended the first half scoring. Jesse Lopez with a crazy dribble, controlling the ball deftly with both feet all across the top of the eighteen, then a left foot bullet into the right corner of the net.

Springville has improved dramatically, playing much better to keep the score close. The half-time team visit seemed to encourage the team as Wasatch scored three goals in the first eight minutes of the second half. Quick ball movement, unselfish play, and shots on frame were the keys to the quick scores. Griffin Hall scored from a blistering one-touch shot that deflected off of a defender trying to protect himself from harm. Matthias Dunn then scored from a rebound off the goalkeeper, following up another crisp shot on goal. Harrison Cheal finished the scoring with an incredible one-man effort. He was dribbling from left to right when he was bumped to the ground inside the penalty area. Instead of feigning injury, hoping for a call, he immediately jumped up, ran down the ball in the corner and then dribbled all along the end line for a one-v-one with the goalkeeper. The ball was blistered between the keeper and the near post.

For the remainder of the time it was a back and forth game with the seniors once again taking the field to end their regular season final home game.
