Game Recap

JUNE 19-23, 2017
Snow College, Ephraim, UT
Varsity Division WHS A 5-1-1 record
The A team competed very well in the Varsity division, reaching the final with a 5-0-1 record to play Salem Hills for the championship.

Snow Soccer Camp was a great experience this year.

The Wasatch coaching staff was pleased with our play during the week. We had the opportunity to look at several different lineups with younger players during the week since only a few seniors attended camp. The seniors provided great leadership. The level of play was very challenging as ten schools participated this year, including Syracuse, Mountain Crest, Riverton, Roy, Salem Hills and others.

The week started well with wins against Roy, Preston, Hurricane, Lehi and Mountain Crest. The girls gained confidence and became familiar with playing different positions, different lineups, and they performed quite well. In the final pool game against Syracuse, Syracuse scored first. Wasatch needed a second half goal for the tie which made it possible to play in the championship. With several girls leaving camp early for other commitments and some ill-timed injuries, Wasatch played a valiant championship game, coming up a bit short. We are anxious for our fall season to begin to see where our growth during the week will take us. It was a fun experience for the girls.

WHS C and D teams
The ‘B’ team was made up of juniors/sophomores and a few freshmen that rotated with the lineup. This enabled every girl to get a lot of playing time. The ’B’ team Finished with a record of 5-1-1, their only loss to Syracuse B, 1-2, in pool play. The B team won in the 3/4th place game.

The ‘C’ and ‘D’ teams were made up of 26 freshmen that attended. Coaches, two former Wasatch soccer players, Whitley Sargent and Savannah Watt mixed the lineups around each day to watch them play. The C team compiled a record of 6-1 while the D team was 3-2-1. The players and coaches were able to get to know each other in preparation for the season to begin on July 31. Coach Wheatley was kept busy all week bouncing from game to game watching all of the girls play. The coaching staff is excited for the upcoming season in August.

The girls represented their school, parents, and community very well. A great group of girls to work with!

Girls’ soccer starts Monday, July 31 at 8:00 am at the high school soccer field. Players will be running a timed 2-mile to test our fitness level and then be doing technical ball skills. The afternoon sessions will consist of tactics and games. We will go Monday, July 31 thru Wednesday, August 2 at 8:00 am and 5:00 pm for tryouts. The high school team will be posted Wednesday August 2. You must attend to play.

All girls in grades 9-12 will report at the same time. There will be a freshmen, junior varsity, and varsity soccer team.

Open play and conditioning begin Monday, July 17 at the Wasatch High Soccer fields at 8 AM. All girls are encouraged to attend. Sessions will be Monday-Wednesday mornings.

We expect to be competing for a state championship this fall so every girl interested in playing soccer needs to be on a conditioning program. The season starts in a little over 4 weeks. Competition for a spot on the team will be intense as the expectations continue to rise. Information can be checked on Coach Wheatley’s Web Site under Girls Soccer.
