Multiple Teams · Wasatch Prevails at the Intermountain Duals

This past weekend the Wasatch Wrestling team hosted the Intermountain Duals at the Wasatch County Event Center. This tournament is one of the toughest dual tournaments in the Intermountain West. The tournament featured last year’s State Championship teams from 5A Pleasant Grove, 4A Wasatch, and 2A South Summit, Along with previous State Champions, Box Elder, Maple Mountain, Mountain Crest, and Payson. ¬†Brighton, Herriman, Lone Peak, Pleasant Grove 2, Ridgeline, Central CO, Mountain View ID, and a team made up of extra wrestlers rounded out the field.

At the end of two days of wrestling, Wasatch prevailed with a 8-0 record. Wasatch’s record included wins over Central, Lone Peak, Mountain Crest, South Summit, Mountain View, Box Elder, Pleasant Grove, and Payson.

It was a complete team effort for Wasatch with four wrestlers going undefeated, Stockton O’Brien 126lb, Corbin Smith 152lbs, Ritchie Heywood 182lb, and DJ Cohen 195lb. Mitchel Slack was 6-2, Trevor Clyde 6-2, Trevor Cluff 7-1, Zak Kohler 7-1, Steven Ballif 7-1, Jakob Discher 7-1, Seth Gardner 3-1, Wylder Smith 5-3.

The extra team was led by Deklan Kelly 8-0, Sammy Heywood 5-1, Nick Lazerus 4-3, and Brock Lloyd 5-2.

In the JV Tournament, McQuade Rhoades placed 1st, Logan Kennard 1st, Justin Swainston 1st, Ben Taylor 4th, Porter Chamberlain 4th, DJ Ford 4th.

This week Wasatch will host region rival Maple Mountain on Wednesday night at the Nest JV 5pm, Varsity 7pm. Then on Thursday, the team will travel to Reno Nevada for the Reno Tournament of Champions.
