18 teams traveled up to Ogden on Saturday, June 3rd, for the Weber State 7 on 7 Passing Tournament, and the Wasatch High Football Team came out on top going 7-1. The day was full of great team efforts with many individuals coming up with big plays in key moments.
Wasatch began the day a little slow with a sloppy win over Manti High School and then a loss to the new Cache County High School, Green Canyon. The lost to Green Canyon seemed to wake up the Wasps who dominated Morgan High School and Ben Lomond to end pool play 3-1.
After lunch, the Wasps began the single elimination tournament against Ogden High School where Wasatch was able to put together a game winning drive as time expired to advance to the quarterfinals. In the quarterfinals the Wasps began the game with a defensive interception and never turned back, easily defeating Ridgeline High School.
That placed the Wasps in the semi-finals against 6-A Fremont High School and with the win, the Wasps would play the Winner of Northridge and Weber High Schools. The Wasps got started early with a 30 yard touchdown pass on the opening drive, and would follow it up with 3 more 30 yard plus TD passes-on their way to a dominating 32 to 0 victory.
In the championship the Wasps would have a tight match-up with another 6A school in Northridge who also won 32 to 0 in their semi-final game over Weber. The Wasps once again scored on their opening drive and when the defensive came up with a big goal line stand with 2 minutes left. This gave the Wasps the 19 to 12 victory for the championship.
