XC in Park City…
Park City’s cross country course is one of the more difficult courses in the state, so it makes sense that it is a pretty big meet with some of the best teams in the state in attendance. This race marks the last regular season race for Wasatch High school as they now prepare for the Region Championships this Friday at Scera Park in Orem.
Both teams fared well—with the Girls team taking second place honors overall at the meet, and with Abby West placing second overall with a stellar course time of 18:36—a near PR for the senior who looks to contend for a state title this year. Other varsity times in the race included Abbie Randall with a time of 20:06, Anna Baird (20:14), Hailey Ellis (20:32), Amy Richardson (20:39), Madelyn King (21:19), and Becca Mathis (21:20).
The boys squad was hampered by the fact that top runners were withheld from the varsity race, but the team performed well in their absence. For example, younger teammates stepped up and delivered some personal best times at the meet, countering the fact that two runners didn’t make an appearance. Andrei Hinckley let the team with an amazing 16:51 performance, narrowly edging Mason Heimburger (16:52) for the top team spot on the day. Josh Benson (17:30), Josh Horner (17:31), Bentley Ackerson (17:54), and Connor Baird (18:13) all ran incredibly well, and earned a spot to run at Region this week.
If you would like to see these teams run at the championship race on Friday, be at the Scera park in Orem at the 3:00 start time. Freshmen, JV, and Varsity races will all contend on the same course—allowing you to see every runner Wasatch will field that day.
