Girls Varsity Tennis · Girl’s Tennis Dominates Brighton in opening match

This was a great first match.  Wasatch had the same problem that Brighton had in that both teams were missing their #1 player.  So both teams bumped everyone up and this match showed how deep we are as a team.  It was 98 degrees and this victory showed a lot of class and heart from Wasatch. We are so proud of these young ladies.

 # 1 Singles Phelan O’Keefe was overpowering and won easily at 6-1 & 6-2  Phelan played really well and brings a lot of class as a freshman to our team

#2 Singles Emma Berg started our really well and won 6-0 in the first set. Her opponent made less mistakes and was hitting a lot of cross court winners off short balls   Emma fought right back but eventually lost the second set 6-7 in a tie breaker.  The third set could have gone either way but they were both tired and it was a matter of who made less mistakes we eventually lost 4-6 in the third

#3 Singles Cassie Henderson showed that she put a lot of time in her game since last year.  She played really well and took charge with a convincing win at 6-3 & 6-3

#1 Doubles Anna Snow &  Afton Overton.  They started out slow and had a lot of trouble with the sun.  Not only are you throwing the ball toss on serving into the sun but you are now partially blinded and hard to concentrate on the ball coming back.  Wasatch lost this set 4-6.  The second set Anna and Afton were in charge and played with a lot of confidence.  What they did smart was changed the server rotation and Anna was able to serve better in the sun. They won the second set 6-2.  They came off the court and said we got this figured out now.  They did but Brighton was not going down without a fight.  Both players helped each other with great net play and confidence in their volleys.  We were serving for the match at 5-4 and Anna put on her superman suit and cape and dominated the net helping Afton win her serve at 6-4

#2 Doubles.  Rebecca McGregor and Cicily Fenton were outstanding.  Both of our girls played very well and made very few errors at the net.  They won 6-2 6-1. Both girls were coming to the net and just volleying with confidence and authority.  They were fun to watch and have a great attitude.
