Wasps News · Timpview Cross Country Meet: Girls Varsity Taking it for the Win

Last Wednesday afternoon, the wasps XC team competed at the Timpview meet located at Kiwanis Park.  A small course consisting of three one mile loops around the perimeter of the park. The turnout for the competition was impressive and we had the chance to run against some very talented teams and individual runners giving our team a good taste of the teams we will be racing against at region.

The first to race were our very committed JV girls team. Trying to rid themselves of pre-race jitters they started warming up the minute they stepped off the bus. Our girls really outdid themselves with this race and placed second overall with the top five running within a minute of each other. To lead out this race was one of our Varsity competitors Savanna Dorrough with a time of 22:00, following Savanna we had Grace Neal with her personal best time this season of 22:32, Abi Krull running a time of 22:32, Abi Spencer with her personal best of 22:43, and Naomi Cernyar with a time of 23:03. We also had some personal best times this race from Kelsie Dalton, Mary Cernyar, Bailee Cragun and Kallie Kuch.

Running in the largest race of the day were our JV boys. At the start the bottleneck was a challenge but our athletes were able to pull ahead getting in good position for the rest of the race. We had Zack Goode lead the team out with an impressive time of 17:44, that being his best race this season. Following Zack we had Ethan Huntsman with a time of 17:44, Eastin McCotter at 18:12, Hyrum Allen at 18:32, and Cameron Horner pulling up into that fifth spot with his personal best of 18:43. This put our JV boys into 4th place out of 16 competing teams. We also had some personal best times from Kayden Horner, Jeremiah Dobesh, Brock Reeder, Coleman Atkinson, and Keith Cragus. It is amazing to see these JV runners race with the precision of a Varsity team. They really compete at the same level by staying close to each other and keeping a disposition of positivity throughout the three mile course. They really drive this program to be what it is and are so supportive and encouraging to our Varsity runners.

Next race up to the line were our top-notch Varsity Girls team. Their training the past few weeks has been immaculate and we are really excited to see what they can pull out at region. These girls really deserve a spot at state and right now are sitting in perfect position to get there. This meet really showed us how well they race together and it was encouraging to see the strength that is shared throughout each of them as they ran this course. To lead out we had Abbie Randall running an 18:51 followed by Emma Page running her personal best of 19:46, Anna Baird with her best time this season of 20:07, Allison Munck with a time of 20:15, and Lillie Randall with a time of 20:29. These girls were able to take first this race which is a really impressive feat at any cross country race!

Next up were our Varsity Boys. Taking 3rd place at Timpview puts them in great position to have a good chance at region and we are hoping the tapered training this next week can pull them into that State meet. These Boys are incredible athletes. Despite the fact that many of them have sported injuries throughout the season, they have still  been able to recover and run with incredible vigor. To lead out this race we had Josh Horner with a time of 16:46, following Josh we had Conner Weldon running his best time this season of 16:50, Bentley Akerson running a 17:11, Trevor Hardy securing his time at 17:17 and Josh Benson finishing at a time of 17:25. High hopes for region continue and we hope you will support these skilled athletes as they run for state positions this week on Friday, October 11th at the Spanish Fork Sports Complex. Races will start at 4:00 pm.
