Game Recap

The Wasatch Wasp offense was playing really well on Springville’s small field. Two goals were scored in the first five minutes of the match. Jesse Lopez scored the first of his two goals from a beautiful assist by Chandler Hendry in the 3rd minute. Two minutes later Jesse had his first of two assists with a great pass to Griffin Hall. Griffin’s shot and goal was a well placed shot in the upper corner of the goal.

Although Wasatch continued to put pressure on the Springville goalkeeper and defense, there were no more goals in the first half.

The second half was the best offensive half of the season with six goals being scored. The first goal was a header by Harrison Cheal. A long throw from Dax Holmes went directly to Harrison where he flicked the ball in the net. The second goal of the half was a bullet by Dax after Nestor Chavez set the ball up about 25 yards out.

The fifth goal of the game was by Carlos Vargas. Another patented free kick from 40 yards out. The goalkeeper jumped and got a couple of fingers on the ball but it was too powerful and went through to the net.

Goal number six was Jesse’s second of the game, this time, twin brother Gary Lopez sent a perfect through ball for the finish. Gary then scored his own goal after stealing the ball from an opponent in our offensive end of the field.

The eighth and last goal was by Chandler Hendry. Jesse sent a cross in for Chandler to finish.

The team played really well. Freshman Blake Skovsaard earned his first save of the season. The defense also played well, keeping intact the region leading, no goals allowed.

Game Recap

On a blustery, cold spring day, Wasatch defeated Region 8 foe Uintah, 4-0.

There was a northwest wind in the face of Wasatch for the first half. Uintah could not capitalize on the advantage as the midfield and defense of Wasatch closed very quickly on the Utes as they gained possession. In the 9th minute, a long ball was driven up top where Jesse Lopez and and Uintah defender seemed to tangle feet about the top of the penalty box. As the ball was poked past the GK, a Uintah defender tried to save the ball from trickling over the line. As the ball reached the line, going in, the defender aides Jesse’s shot with one last push.

Up 1-0 at the half the Wasps did not allow a single shot on goal for the Uintah Utes. Jesse Lopez earned a hat trick with two more goals in the second half while Gary Lopez also scored from a header, a perfectly placed pass from his brother Jesse. Harrison Cheal continued his great play up top with an assist, along with Chandler Hendry and Joseph Jackson. T

The team played excellent soccer with the ball moving quickly around, changing the point of attack and finishing good opportunities on goal.

The defense, again stellar, was lead by Carlos Vargas and Matthias Dunn aiding Ismael Munoz with his fourth shutout.

Wasatch is now in first place in Region 8 with a 3-0 record.

Game Recap

On a wet day, Wasatch controlled most of the match. It took most of the first half to settle down and not play so direct. In the 37th minute, Gary Lopez scored from a beautiful assist from his brother, Jesse Lopez.

The second half was still wet but the team quickly settled in with more possession with a purpose. Gary scored his second goal in the 48th minute, the assist from Harrison Cheal. The first of three second half assists. Harrison played a great match up top, distributing the ball very well.

Jesse Lopez scored in the 54th minute, again Harrison with the assist. In the 79th minute, Carlos Vargas scored a header from a corner kick, beautifully delivered by Harrison.

The entire team played very well defensively, not allowing Spanish Fork a single shot on goal. Ismael Munoz earned his third shutout of the season.

Game Recap

A windy day in Heber created some interesting soccer. With the wind at their backs, Salem Hills had several good opportunities on goal but the strong play of Ismael Munoz and the Wasp defense helped keep the Skyhawks out of the net.

Wasatch had five shots on goal the first half against the wind and the Salem Hills GK had a strong first half making several diving saves early on. The first half ended 0-0.

With the wind at their backs Wasatch seemed to wake up as several good attacks materialized but still no goal. Salem Hills had a fantastic long shot that Ismael barely tipped over the crossbar.

With 4 minutes left in the match, there was a foul called near midfield against Salem Hills. Carlos Vargas stepped up to the ball and blasted a fabulous shot into the upper left corner of the goal. It seemed to break the scoring drought for Wasatch as Chandler Hendry scored the second goal with just over a minute left. It was from a beautiful corner kick by Harrison Cheal.

The match ended 2-0 for Wasatch.

Game Recap

The match last week on Tuesday at Timpview was a disappointing result.

In the first half Wasatch controlled the match having four shots on goal to Timpview’s one shot on goal. The second half as similar although Timpview picked up the intensity. Wasatch had eight shots on goal to two.

Wasatch had 12 shots on goal, 5 directly at the GK’s stomach, while Timpview had 5 shots on goal for the entire match.

Wasatch was up 1-0 at halftime, Nestor Chavez scored in the 34th minute, the assist from Max Magana. One or two more goals the first half and one or two more the second half were a real possibility but shooting directly at the GK is not always the best strategy.

Less than two minutes were left in the match when a collision occurred in the penalty area. The center official did not call a PK but the AR did. When the center official went and discussed, for about a minute, the call, he then awarded a PK.

In the first OT Timpview was the aggressors with two shots on goal to none by Wasatch. They scored seven minutes in for the golden goal. Timpview is a fast and quick team. It was a good pre-season game to get in.

Now that region play starts I feel we are prepared to go.
