Game Recap

Wasatch struggled at Springville, the field is postage stamp in size, but it was not the size of the field but a seemingly slow and lethargic start that was costly in the first half. Each team had good offensive opportunities the first half since the ball seems to be constantly in front of the net.

The Wasps had a breakaway smothered by the goalkeeper and several wide and over the top shots the first half. Meanwhile Springville took advantage of their opportunities and scored two first half goals.

Down 0-2 at halftime, the Wasatch Wasps woke up and began to continually attack the Red Devils goal with multiple shots early in the second half. Multiple breakaway chances were taken away by an active goalkeeper but the pressure continued to mount. Half way through the second half Myia Hoggan scored the first of her two goals by following up on a rebounded shot from Caity Messick just in front of the goal. This energized Wasatch where they continued to attack the goal. With about ten minutes left Myia tied the game up with a long shot, the assist coming from Mickey Scovil.

With renewed energy and a desire to win the game in regulation, Wasatch continued to press forward. Several counter attacks from Springville were thwarted early in play and the Wasps continued moving to the offensive end quickly. With less than a minute left, Springville mounted one last counter attack which led to a disappointing conclusion. Springville scored the winning goal and the Wasps had little time to equalize.

The first round of Region 8 play ended.

Game Recap

The last time Wasatch played Timpanogos was three years ago in the first round of the 4A playoffs where the Wasps were over matched and lost 3-1. This time around it was an even game with lots of excitement, drama, physicality and an overtime period.

Wasatch started off really well controlling the ball and tempo of play. In the 12th minute of play some great combination passing resulted in a beautiful assist by Mary Santiago to Quincy Downey for the early 1-0 lead.

Samantha Brady scored Timpanogos’ first goal from a set piece after the official called a foul on Wasatch. The second half also saw a second goal from Samantha after another foul was called on Wasatch outside the penalty box. A bit of displeasure was heard but a great shot put the ball in the back of the net.

The Wasps spent the rest of the game clawing their way back in, hustling, outworking Timpanogos several times with great scoring opportunities. After not getting the ball in the net with the run of play, Timpanogos fouled Wasatch on the far left of the field on the corner of the penalty box. They set up their defense and then Quincy Downey took the shot which went into the far right corner of the net over the outstretched hands of the goalkeeper. The game was tied with less than two minutes left.

The OT period began with Wasatch controlling the ball, getting several great opportunities to put the game away. One sequence had a shot of the right post, rebound for a follow up, which the GK saved and a third chance that was covered by the defense. With less than two minutes left in the OT, once again, Samantha Brady scored her third, the golden goal, to win the game.

Wasatch played great and both teams fought valiantly. The Wasps are finding out how tough Region 8 is with each game being hotly contested for 80 and sometimes more minutes each game.

Game Recap

Skyridege jumped out quickly as the Wasp defense was unable to clear the initial offensive possession. Down 0-1 Wasatch continued to struggle in the first half when the Falcons scored their second goal in the 12th minute.

With a couple of minutes left in the first half Wasatch mounted some offensive opportunities when a foul outside the penalty box allowed for a direct kick. Whitney Hess, just back from a head injury, stepped up and rifled a shot into the upper left ‘V’ of the goal.

After halftime Wasatch picked up the play and controlled the first 15 minutes having multiple opportunities to score but could not quite get the ball in the net. In the 55th minute Skyridge scored their third and final goal of the match.
