Coach Kelly Russell
Coach Russell graduated from Auburn with a B.S. in International Business and a M. Ed. in Teaching and Learning from the University of Utah. She started her coaching career with the Culver Summer Camps where she coached high school summer teams for 2 years. And while in college she volunteered coached the Auburn-Opelika Boys and Girls club 13 U team for 3 years. Once she started teaching, she became the adviser for student government at Union Middle school and then transferred to Sunset Ridge Middle school where she coached the 8th grade girl’s basketball for 3 years.
Russell took a small break from coaching after she had her two sons, Cash and Duncan, but returned once she joined the Wasatch High School coaching staff. Since at Wasatch, Russell has coached Freshman, JV and assisted with Varsity. Russell has led each team to a winning season with a 69-13 record. Russell also took a team to the Big Foot Hoops Las Vegas classic where over 1500 teams competed and Wasatch placed 2nd overall in their division.
Russell has a love for the game and competition and an even bigger love for helping young women become leaders. One of her greatest coaching inspirations, Pat Summit, former University of Tennessee women’s head coach and winningest college coach of all time said, “attitude is a choice. Think positive thoughts daily. Believe in yourself.” This is what Russell wants to instill in all players that she coaches.
